Just before my beloved shini whacks me with a slipper, I guess I'll deliver on what I promised. A new play's in town called Sathai & Saakadai. [In translation, skin and err, sewage? I don't know much about this. If need be, I'd put you through to the lady in charge. Maybe what she sent me might be of help if you're interested and intelligent enough to indulge in intellectual plays like this.]
"Flesh explores the reality of human behaviour being taken as a product of interest. Sexual satisfaction is juxtaposed as flesh trade. This concept is triggered from the recent influx of media programmes, where sexuality was used as a commodity to satisfy a global demand. The writer tries to highlight the sexual expectations and exploitations that occurs socially through this experimental performance. The play is positioned within a complex barter trade practiced in society where sex is the commodity."
"'Saakadai', penetrates into our identity beyond our given names and digs out the disgust, filth and rubbish we have successfully decorated with materialistic forms over all these years. The play explores the disgusting nature of people where the words they speak, emit the stench of faeces; the sights they see, direct to the residence of vulgar; the things they do, shock and cripple one’s comprehension on the way some people can live their lives.. lives of sewer. 'Saakadai' devours on the stinking societal issues that are happening right before our very own eyes yet regarded transparent as if it never existed."
